Thank you for choosing our JianZhan teacup. We are delighted to share the rich history and unique qualities of JianZhan with you.

What is JianZhan?

JianZhan, also known as Jian ware, is a type of Chinese pottery originally produced in Jianyang, Fujian province during the Song Dynasty (960-1279 AD). These teacups are renowned for their exceptional craftsmanship, distinctive glazing techniques, and their deep connection to Chinese tea culture.

    The Beauty of JianZhan

Each JianZhan teacup is a unique piece of art, characterized by its exquisite patterns and deep, lustrous glazes. The most notable feature of JianZhan is the "hare's fur," "oil spot," "transmutation glaze", or "DarkGold glaze" patterns that appear on the surface. The transmutation glaze, known as Yohen, is particularly admired for its stunning effect that resembles a starry night sky, with iridescent spots that shimmer like stars. The DarkGold glaze, favored by emperors, adds a rich, golden dots to dark glaze, making it one of the most coveted glazes.

      Unique Craftsmanship

JianZhan stands out from other types of pottery due to its unique clay composition, which contains 8-10% iron. This high iron content is essential for achieving the distinctive glaze patterns. Additionally, the firing process of JianZhan is exceptionally challenging. The temperature must reach up to 1300°C (2372°F), which is crucial for developing the intricate glaze patterns and ensuring the durability of the teacup. This high-temperature firing is the most difficult part of crafting a JianZhan teacup, requiring great skill and precision.

        The Experience

Using a JianZhan teacup can enhance the tea-drinking experience. The thick walls of the teacup retain heat, ensuring your tea stays warm for a longer time. The iron-rich clay body allows the tea's flavors to develop fully, and the beautiful glaze enhances the aesthetic pleasure of your tea ritual.

          Caring for Your JianZhan Teacup

To maintain the beauty and longevity of your JianZhan teacup:

            1. Hand wash with warm water and a soft cloth.
            2. Avoid using harsh detergents or abrasive materials.
            3. Dry thoroughly after washing to prevent any residual moisture.
